Well, the big day is almost here. THE Nordstrom Anniversary Sale where you can get all of your fall and winter essentials at the best prices you’ll see all season. Last year during the sale, I was in Paris and I felt so unprepared. And like a good mama bear, I want you guys to be so prepared that you get all the things you want and need from the sale.
I’m going over the best way to shop this sale for maximum shopping success and to avoid getting overwhelmed!
When a sale is this big and the deals are this good, you’re going to want to plan ahead in order to avoid getting overwhelmed and to make sure that you get what you want. Here are some planning tips that’ll help you get started on your journey to mastery of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
- Make a list – where my list girls at?! Seriously whip out a pen and paper (or your Notes app, my personal fave) and write out about 5 categories that you’ll want to shop. Think of the items you’ll be wishing for during the fall and winter so that you can plan to get your hands on them during this sale.
- Have a budget – don’t go hog wild here as if this is the sale to prepare for the apocalypse. But DO give yourself some boundaries to really make sure you score the items you need.
- Remember the key dates – Early Access (for Nordstrom cardholders) begins July 13th (2 AM central time) and the sale opens to the public on July 21st. This wonderful madness officially ends on August 6th!
- Take advantage of Early Access – A) If you aren’t a cardholder, don’t fret. Make sure to use the time before July 21st to stalk the items that you want to get. Make sure to add them to your wishlist on Nordstrom (register your email with them before the sale starts so you have the ability to make a wishlist!) so that your top items are easily accessible once you’re able to shop the sale. B) If you are a cardholder, take this opportunity to try different sizes of items and get time in the store to really try on and think about your picks. And if something you want has sold out, you’ll already have it mind (on your wishlist) to check in on throughout the sale to wait for a restock.
When in doubt, ALWAYS select ‘Buy Online, Pickup In-Store’ option
I highly recommend that you shop this sale online. There is such different stock at each Nordstrom location that you won’t end up seeing all the thousands of products that are marked down online. This way you won’t have to wait a week or pay for expedited shipping to get your finds in to try on and decide what you want to return. You’ll get a notification that your order is ready to be picked up and you can try on your sale purchases right then and there. Go ahead and order pieces in a few sizes and return those that aren’t a great fit or anything that just didn’t pan out from what you saw online. Factor getting a couple sizes into your budget because this will ensure that an item in a different size doesn’t sell out before you can get your hands on it!
Start with the basics
Below are the 5 categories that I’m going to be using to guide my shopping. I want to make sure that I get my hands on items in these categories first because I know that they’re going to be the quickest to sell out and that they’ll last the longest in my closet. Then move on to trendier pieces – just make sure that trend pieces are made of longer lasting materials and are silhouettes that are likely to come back into style (ruffles, bell sleeves, etc.).
I think it’s safe to say that I am a denim addict. I wear jeans to work almost every day, reach for them first when I go into my closet, and they’re the base of 98% of my fall/winter outfits. That’s why I feel like scoring your favorite denim at the best possible price is very worth it. Below I’m linking some of my most favorite pairs of jeans! They win on quality, fit, and longevity.
BOOTS + BOOTIES:
There’s potential that I’m not only a denim addict but also an addict to boots and booties. God’s working on all of us, HA. All throughout the fall and the winter, I have boots or booties on my feet whether I’m in a casual dress or my favorite jeans and a sweater. Make sure you’re looking for boots that are high quality, and that doesn’t always mean expensive! Look for leather uppers with synthetic soles or boots with leather uppers and soles. As long as there are elements of real leather in the boot, you can be sure that they’ll last you a few more seasons than just one.
This sale is the #1 opportunity to score winter coats and other outerwear at the best prices of the season. The chance to buy these items at these prices won’t come around again until Black Friday or after Christmas! Now is the time!
FALL + WINTER ESSENTIALS:
Think sweaters, scarves, turtlenecks, and beyond. All the warm basics that you’ll wear throughout the season and many winter seasons to come (ahem, cashmere sweaters) at amazing sale prices.
As I talked about in this post, I cannot go without a classic white button down tunic. It’s a piece that I’ll wear over and over until it’s time to retire it! I also had my eye on the Madewell courier shirt for a year or so, and just took the plunge to finally add it to my wardrobe. Talk about #noregrets. A short sleeve, white button down is also an essential for many outfits. Or a pair of white jeans, a white sweater, a white scarf…the possibilities are endless here. But don’t forget about our good friends the color black, tan, or grey. Although the red or pastel sweaters seem like a great idea, going with a neutral in your fall and winter wear will be something you won’t ever regret. This way your essentials can go with tons of different outfits and you can spice things up with fun seasonal accessories to get some color in your life (if you’re not like me and would opt to wear black and grey all the time).
Don’t give up
This is really something that I’m going to have to remind myself during this sale. If a piece isn’t in stock in my size or color that I want, I usually end up moving on. But people are buying and returning things so quickly during this sale that if you keep your eye on a favorite piece, it’s likely that it’ll come back in stock! Stay committed 🙂
